Abia State, created on August 27, 1991, is located in the South-Eastern part of Nigeria. The state derives its name from an abbreviation of four of its densely populated areas. Aba, Bende, Isuikwuato, and Afikpo. Abia State is known as "God's Own State" and is home to a vibrant, entrepreneurial people renowned for commerce, industry, and craftsmanship.

The Helm features a Black and Gold Eagle signifying Strength and Grace. The Shield is quartered in Blue, Gold, Earth, and Green signifying Labour, Warmth, Welcoming Nature, and Fertility. The Central Elephant (Enyi) is the traditional image of Abia.
